About OBBOTEC

OBBOTEC was founded in 2018 with the aim to develop unique solutions for the reuse of bio and plastic waste streams. OBBOTEC’s technologies were previously developed by inventor and chemical engineer Obbo Hazewinkel who worked in the petrochemical industry. With his inventions, plastics from waste streams can now be recycled at a high quality or transformed into a (partly green) fuel. OBBOTEC is the owner and incubator of these technologies and has developed two key operational applications. In this way, OBBOTEC contributes to a circular economy and a sustainable world

OBBOTEC-SPEX has a unique solution for recycling plastic (PE & PP). From a plastic-rich waste stream of polyethylene (PE) and/or polypropylene (PP), PE and PP plastic is selectively extracted by dissolution. This removes the additives and contaminants such as colour, odor, plasticizers, and flame retardants. SPEX cleans the plastic (PE & PP) back to near-virgin quality. Afterwards, it can be reused within new, high-standard applications, such as plastic packaging. The yield of this recycling process is almost 100% because only the contaminants and other plastics are being removed

Mixed biomass-plastic waste streams are often difficult to recycle and are therefore incinerated or landfilled. OBBOTEC-HydroCat has developed a third-generation pyrolysis solution specifically for this waste stream, with an integrated hydrogenation step.
With HydroCat’s hydro-cracking, a high-quality marketable fuel is produced with a high caloric value. HydroCat prevents this mixed waste stream from ending up in the waste incinerator and losing energy.
